Avoiding online lending scams: 7 red flags

By Finsyal Editorial, Consumer safety desk · 20 Jul 2026 · 6 min read · Updated 16 Aug 2026

Legitimate lenders never ask for a fee before releasing a loan. If someone demands an upfront payment to 'process' or 'release' your money, walk away.

Check for an SEC registration and a real, verifiable address. A lender that only exists in a chat app is a serious risk.

Be wary of pressure tactics — 'approved in minutes, pay now or lose it'. Real credit decisions take a little time.

Protect your data: never share your OTP, and never grant an app full access to your contacts or gallery. Report suspicious lenders and check their Finsyal rating first.
